Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences at Mayo Clinic in Florida plans to expand its radiography technologist program, doubling the number of cohorts beginning in January 2026.
The expansion is needed to staff the new Duan Family Building in Jacksonville, a cancer center that will house seven MRI machines, according to Mayo. The program will also include a focused five-month, post-primary MRI internship designed to help graduates prepare for the MRI registry exam.
With the augmented radiography technologist program and existing interventional radiology internship, Mayo said it is addressing the nationwide shortage of imaging professionals.
In its announcement, Mayo cited a 2024 survey from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) showing that the vacancy rate for radiologic technologists has risen to 18.1%, nearly tripling in the past three years.
