Image Gently course aims to reduce children's radiation exposure

Image Gently has released what it's calling a "Family-Friendly Campaign" educational module for pediatric imaging.

Created through a partnership between family medicine and pediatric radiology, the course simulates imaging decisions for a common pediatric case of acute abdominal pain.

The module, designed for medical students in their family medicine, pediatrics, or radiology rotations, is also beneficial for residents and attending physicians, according to Image Gently. Upon completion of the approximately one-hour training, learners should be able to:

  1. Explain radiation, radiation risks, and risk mitigation strategies using layperson terminology.
  2. Use clinical decision support, or critically appraise available literature, to guide medical recommendations.
  3. Describe how to engage with healthcare teammates to utilize available evidence-based recommendations.
  4. Demonstrate shared decision-making with patients and their families.

The Family-Friendly Campaign module can be accessed through the American College of Radiology's (ACR) website.
