The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) urged members to write to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to oppose a proposed 2026 payment cut for amyloid imaging.
As part of the proposed 2026 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule, the CMS will reassign the cardiac amyloidosis imaging Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code 78803 to a new ambulatory payment classification. This could result in a 57% cut to payment for the procedure, with reimbursement dropping from $1,305.48 to $558.70, the ASNC said.
“Tell CMS this proposal must not be finalized,” the organization urged members.
The deadline to submit comments to the CMS is September 15, and the fastest and easiest way to send comments is through the ASNC’s website, where there is a template letter posted for use, the ASNC noted.
