Mich. bill may ease certificate of need requirements

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has highlighted a new Michigan bill that would change certificate of need requirements for adding PET scanners, fixed or mobile MRI, and fixed or mobile CT scanners.

If successful as written, Senate Bill (SB) 148 would allow an individual to obtain a written acknowledgment, rather than a certificate of need (CON), when seeking to "initiate, expand, replace, relocate, or acquire 1 or more" scanners, provided they are performed at an outpatient imaging center.

SB 148 has been referred to the Senate Health Policy Committee.
