The board of directors of the RSNA has named Suhny Abbara, MD, as the new editor in chief of its flagship journal, Radiology.
Abbara will assume the role in January 2026, succeeding Linda Moy, MD. Moy served as editor in chief from January 2023 until stepping down in August.
Abbara, a senior associate consultant and chair of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Division at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, has been editor of RSNA’s Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging since 2019.
As a longtime member of RSNA, Abbara has served multiple times on the society's cardiac subcommittee of the RSNA Scientific Program Committee and the RSNA Education Exhibits Awards Committee. He was also chair of the cardiac track on the RSNA's refresher course committee from 2016 to 2019 and served as a member and chair of the Cardiac Radiology Panel for RadioGraphics.
In addition, Abbara has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging, Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy, and Imaging in Medicine. He has also been an associate editor for the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, and the cardiac imaging section of the Year Book of Diagnostic Radiology.
Abbara has co-authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, as well as books, textbooks, clinical guidelines, and reports. He has been a reviewer for nearly 25 scientific journals.
Along with his new role at Radiology, Abbara will oversee the publication of the RSNA’s suite of six online journals: Radiology, RadioGraphics, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, Radiology: Imaging Cancer, and Radiology Advances.
The RSNA noted that it will appoint an interim editor for Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging and begin the search for a new editor in early 2026.
