The American College of Radiology (ACR) is urging radiology practices to review and update their systems to reflect new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) Procedure-to-Procedure (PTP) edits taking effect July 1, 2026.
The quarterly update, detailed in CMS Transmittal 13667, is designed to promote correct coding methodologies and prevent incorrect Medicare Part B payments, according to the ACR. The update includes all earlier edits and changes dating back to 1996.
NCCI PTP edits prevent inappropriate payment of services reported together. When two codes from an edit pair are reported for the same beneficiary on the same date of service, the column one code is eligible for payment while the column two code is denied unless a clinically appropriate NCCI PTP-associated modifier is also reported, according to CMS.
Practices can find additional details on the CMS NCCI webpage and in the ACR April 2 Bulletin.
