The Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, is launching its new hybrid operating room, which may increase radiology capacity, according to a June 9 CBC report.
Claus Schaus, MD, a retired vascular surgeon from the hospital, said in a CBC interview that the hybrid room may mitigate physicians' use of the hospital's radiology suite.
Procedures such as imaging, biopsy, diagnosis, and surgery can be performed in the same operating room. And the room may help address radiology backlog issues, Shaus said in the interview.
The report also stated that the hybrid operating room will open "within a year and a half."
