Vacancy rates are falling for radiation therapist and medical dosimetrist positions, according to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists' (ASRT's) 2026 Radiation Therapy Workplace and Staffing survey.
The biennial survey showed a vacancy rate of 11.4% in 2026, compared to 13.6% in 2024, while the vacancy rate for medical dosimetrists fell to 6.8% this year from 9.6% in 2024, according to the ASRT.
ASRT's survey also found that the average number of full-time equivalent (FTE) radiation therapist positions budgeted per facility decreased slightly from 8.3 in 2024 to 8.1. Meanwhile, FTE dosimetrist positions budgeted per facility increased from 2.7 to 2.8 in 2026, ASRT said.
The survey was conducted in February 2026. Of 23,145 radiation therapists and medical dosimetrists approached, 560 responded.
