The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has published practice guidance for the creation of percutaneous arteriovenous fistulas (pAVFs) for dialysis access.
The guidance, which includes requirements for the development of a pAVF program, including patient preparation, performance of the procedure, complication management, and follow-up care, was published in the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) on September 9.
According to SIR, this guidance is intended as a review of pAVF more than six years after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted clearance to the procedure, which is now a common approach in many clinical practices for providing durable, functional hemodialysis access.
