Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Access to quality healthcare in the developing world has become an increasingly prominent issue around the globe. This week in our CT Digital Community, we're pleased to bring you a story by international editor Eric Barnes on a recently launched program designed to disseminate CT technology to remote regions in Africa.
The project's goal is to replace basic radiography systems at rural clinics in Africa with more advanced single- and dual-slice CT systems. The program hopes to avoid missteps that have been made in the past, such as insufficient provisions for maintaining and repairing installed systems.

Redesigning your PACS reading room
Meanwhile, the arrival of PACS has led to a paradigm shift in the way that radiologists do their jobs. Gone are lightboxes and film alternators, replaced by computer workstations and software applications that enable radiologists to work faster and more efficiently than ever before.
But along with PACS have come new problems -- including physical and psychological stress associated with heavier workloads. The topic is the subject of a presentation at our PACS in an Age of Change virtual conference on November 17 by Eliot Siegel, MD, of the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System.
Dr. Siegel's presentation, titled "Redesigning Your Radiology Department to Save Body and Mind," will include tips on how to configure your department to maximize productivity and minimize stress.
